Whose Idea Was That?

So the other evening, my Mom came into the den and asked "wouldn't it be a fun idea to recall past New Years Eve parties and stories at this New Years Eve?"

Now, if you know me at all.... I LOVE back in the day stories of myself, family members, and the two combined. So needless to say I was ALL about it! I sat down to dinner with my parents (yea, we still have dinner together even the three of us :)) and we began playing a round of questions. Came up with some really great ones too!

Some examples included:

  • What are the two things this group always argues about at New Years?
    • Who is sitting at the barstools and how many years we've been ringing in the New Year together.

  • What water event entertained the children numerous years?
    • The Hot Tub

  • What is the saying that is added to the end of a fortune cookie?
    • "In Bed"

  • Who stole a beer the first year Amanda and Drew could legally drink? (Bonus points if known where beer was taken from)
    • Lexi (the family dog) and stolen from a snowbank outside the sliding glass door.
These were only some of the top contenders I choose to share, some were better and some were too good to share.

My thought was that we were turning this into a Jeopardy esq. game. With teams and points and BONUS points for those who could expand the questions further.

WRONG: apparently it was supposed to be a questionnaire like game where people could answer questions together or on their own and then create a big discussion. Whatever, I'm sure I'll write some New Years recap where I sum up if the game went well or not....

New Years Eve

This will be the 22nd year my family has hosted a New Years Eve party. I'm not really sure how it really began other than my parents meeting great friends while we lived in an apartment complex as the house was being built. A couple decades later and we still get together at least once a year to celebrate something.

There's a core group of 8 people (4 couples) that have been involved since the very beginning and along the way kids were added, neighbors stopped by, and above all fun was had. I'm really thankful to have such a wonderful tradition to look forward to every year and never have to worry about what my plan will be.

Sure I've done the occasional change up of plans; I've gone to a hockey game before, had friends or boyfriends join the mix, had other ideas come up, but I've had this group of people be my main priority to ring in the new year.

This year the parental and I are planning a jeopardy like game to quiz the hard core attendees and create conversation based on our questions. I don't mean to toot my own horn, but *toot toot* we've got some pretty good questions!

Hope you have a great New Years Eve celebration!!

My People

Everyone has "their' kind of people and I've been friends with mine for 22years. Yep that's right, this 25year old has had two friends for 22years. How you ask?? Well we moved into our house the fall of 1992, where soon after our next door neighbors moved in. Myself and the "little" girl next door were both sleeping in our cars and thus began our immediate friendship of course. If you can't nap with your best friend, then you are not best friends, it's like my best friend test actually.

So little 6month old Katie and 3year old Abby became life long friends by pretty much sleeping through our first meet and greet. Like best friends we've had our ups, downs, and bumps in the road, but when you find a friend that just excepts your strange quirks, encourages strange habits, and loves the same things you do; that's something you never let go of! It's even strangely awesome how we coordinate and or match at times...I'll be honest and say most times are unplanned :).

Flash forward to this past week, Katie came home from London for Christmas break. SOOooooooOOO happy to have my person home and to spend some lost time with her. She left me back in September, although I begged and argued that she wasn't allowed to go, though she left me any way :(. Since then we've tweeted, facebooked, and snap chatted to stay in touch, but nothing was better than seeing her in person. I probably held on a little long, but rightfully so and there was booze involved.

Oh and my other good friend I'm really thankful to still be close with is Katie's brother Matt who was also in town for the holidays and could catch up with him as well.

These are 3 out of 4 members of our childhood business called M.A.K.A. (missing the first A, my sister of course). We sold lemonade and held a carnival for the neighborhood kids. Our summers were purely AMAZING because we had each other to come up with the most creative games to entertain
ourselves and also our awesome parents allowed us to have this free and sometimes crazy thinking.

Hopefully another get together is in store for us soon... it's so hard when Katie's in London for now, Matt's in D.C. and you know I'm...here -_-.

Christmas in a Nutshell

Christmas was very good to me this year.

I got to sleep in a little bit, which is always a plus on a holiday.
Helped to make brunch with the family.
Opened gifts with my whole family!

My Mom, Grandmother, and Myself on Christmas Eve at my Aunt and Uncle's House.

All she asked for was a (tiny) box, she got a few different sizes to choose from!

I was soon Happy she really seemed to like my gift I got her! A Magna Doddle for those of you who don't recall. Prob one of my favorites from my childhood! I probably had to go to four, count them 4 stores to find this gem!

My very favorite gifts I received this year! Funny thing is that my sister and I ended up getting each other the sister Alex&Ani bracelet. Which is both really cool and really strange since neither of us said anything to each other. And my lovely Mom got me (and my sister) the Daughter one. I'm not sure what it is, but I'm a big fan of these bracelets.

Hope your holidays were wonderful!!

Merry Christmas Eve

Merry Christmas Eve or Happy Holidays!!

It's about 12 noon and I'm supposed to vacuum, clean up the house a bit, AND oh yea....wrap presents!! Ooopsss, dropped the ball on that one. I guess that's the one downside to having all my shopping done two weeks ago was that there was no immediate urgency to wrap said gifts. Well now its the day before and I have about oh, ZERO motivation to go upstairs and wrap any or all gifts.

However; I was motivated enough to update my computer and phone which is a plus. Downfall to that was I literally was only able to watch T.V. while my computer and phone were BOTH being updated. Yes that's right, I couldn't multitask or entertain myself with more than one source... clearly now I'm back on the computer and the phone is almost ready. Thank goodness!!

So it's Christmas Eve, I have the day off (Thank the frigging lord, I needed this) and I've gotta get my few things done before the traditional family Christmas party up with my Mom's side of the family. Busy busy.

Hope you have a great Holiday!

For Once

I am soooo excited for Christmas. I usually am, I'm a happy person and LOVE holidays in general, but the last few Christmas there's been other things going on or I just haven't gotten into the spirit as much.

This year, I'm super excited and happy for this Christmas season. Not quite sure why, but I am this year. I really love my work; the kids, my co-teacher, and co-workers, even my bosses are WAY better! Family is good. Friends are good, new and old ones will be around for the holidays which REALLY makes it much better <3.

And this year, I finished all Christmas shopping a full 2 weeks early!! Whoop Whoop for ME!! (That's what we say for positive reinforcement). Truth, I do still finish making my Mom's present cuz she didn't "want anything" so I thought, if I made something, she couldn't REALLY say no to it.. and she likes that kind of stuff and I can be pretty crafty sometimes. Maybe if I'm feeling really crafting and thinking about it I'll even post as I complete the project pictures... Maybe, if I'm thinking about it while I compile said project. I kinda hope I'll remember to, it might be fun and cool to look back on my project process and not just said product.

Hope your Christmas Holiday Shopping is at least started and going well!!

Toddler Thoughts Thursday

I'm going to attempt to write the funny parts of my job for two hopes. One maybe it'll allow me to focus on really happy/funny moments the day before my co-teacher has a day off and two so you can hopefully have a great read come Thursday!

First week I'll start you out with two; because they've been really good this week so far!

First one happened Monday Morning while prepping for the day we had on Frozen (I know, I know..we love and hate it) when one little girl was dancing in the middle of the room screaming singing "In the first time in forever, LET IT GO!"

Just about died laughing

Second one happened Tuesday during our monthly fire drill. Alarm went off, startled a few of the kids so I held their hands while walking outside to our designated spot, did our head count and check list, then headed inside. As we walked back in, some of the children were having a hard time walking back in in a line. So we began holding hands and literally had three rows of four children holding hands. Ah-dorable to say the least. One little girls shouts: "Let's all get together and hold hands now!"  Then when I went to ask my co-teacher who really said that, the little girl turned her head around and said "H did!" hahaha Could NOT stop laughing at her and our groups cuteness!!

Hope that turns your morning in a great direction!

R.O.T.F.L.

If you can't decipher the above acronym I'll help you out there; it's Rolling On The Floor Laughing. Because that's exactly what I wanted to do after a few text messages were exchanged...

A little back story first, I will admit that I am on A DATING website or two gulp... And yes occasionally I get a nice messages, but mostly it's LITERALLY a bunch of creeps, weirdos, or a combination of the two! I'm nice sometimes and respond hoping for something... conversation mostly I guess, cuz after my most recent break up I don't if I want something right now. I'll be nice and say, I also met him online and dated for a few months to find out what a faker and simply putting it an ASSHOLE... no really it's putting it nicely. I've thought about blogging that one too, but I wouldn't want to say anything too mean and I'm honest enough to tell you that I'm still a little bit bitter about it.

So before you continue judging me so much, just remember that the name of the blog is UNATTACHED CONFESSIONS that means you the reader get to enjoy all my ups and downs of the relationship field. Well here's a down story to add to the books... and might I add a funny one at that.

I met said guy, we'll call him "D" to again be nice, online where I noticed right away that we didn't have a good match. 10% actually as it tells you, but I was trying to be nice and half trying to move on a bit. So I replied, got to talking and he wasn't so bad.

I exchange my number in hope for a date that weekend and then spontaneously my friends and I decided to go to a public ugly sweater party, so I thought perfect! It's public so I can kind of hang with him if I wanted and with the friends and the same time. Then he started again with the weird..

creepy #1: We sent me pictures...nothing dirt; but none the less, selfies were sent... then one of his dog, and finally one of his dinner. WHAT??!!? (ok the last was supposed to be for his mom.... RED FLAG..)

creepy #2: I had a friend with me who was staying the night. He thought he was being nice by inviting us over before hand for a drink, we've never met and that just sounds creepy...

creepy #3: when I tried politely saying Sarah and I needed to meet with our third sweater gal could we meet there, me meaning the huge party, he took as at his house WHAT!!? No dude, I don't even know you. After again back and forth texting I simply said, see you there. AND DONE.

NoooOope he then writes "I drank too much wine and have a buzz on so I can't leave the house right now" like seriously dude, you had plenty of notice that you were going out that night why the F did you drink?

Second, are you a woman!??!? My god, man up, put on some pants and meet me...  Then he had the nerve to ask if I'd be out all night, in which I replied, hey yea! Teacher needs this night out, looking to drink! He responds: oh, thought if you weren't gonna be out all night, you might wanna stop by afterwards ... Um again NoooOooope! Don't think so highly of yourself there bub.

To say the least I was done.... He texted the following day and I was not answering. Then the following Sunday I receive this text:

I'm sorry, first of all I WAS WORKING all day. A baby shower in fact at the country club. Excuse me if I don't respond right away. Secondly, do you and excuse my language have a dick or a vagina?? Cuz it's hard to tell... I texted my friends instead of him and explained, then added that my ovaries are clearly bigger than his balls and ain't nobody got time for that! It really wasn't even worth responding back. Sorry if that seems mean...doesn't it? I had plenty a guys just go cold turkey on me...

Follow up to last Friday I receive a new text from an unknown number.... I was babysitting overnight, then forgot about it Saturday and babysat again, then saw it again on Monday and was with my friend Sarah who convinced me to text the number back...incase ya know it was random cute guy. I wasn't ...

The last part Sarah added...I really don't have the heart to be that brutally honest. I wish I did sometimes. I'd much rather be honest and upfront without running the risk of coming off like a bitch or too head strong or whatnot.

Then of course I had to update Sarah on his response on my way home. Yes Mom I read a text while driving.. :0

Such a good laugh about the whole thing! Hope you get one too!

2 Weekends in 1 Update

This weekend (like most) went by wayy too fast!

First of all, I had a blast while the parentals were away on their Florida excursion
and I was home watching after the dog. I had many a fun nights staying up till
whenever I wanted, (yea that's right! I stayed up late and I liked it! And I'll
do it again too). Sleeping till a reasonable hour, cuz I mean I did still
need to feed said dog and put her out at a reasonable hour, and
I just really loved having a little more breathing room
around the house and the late night solo-dance
 parties were fun too!

Lexi and I had a blast on Saturday where we both headed
to the salon and were treated to (for her especially) a much
needed hair cut!
On our way! See the curly hair we're both rocking? Yea it's our Saturday 'don't care hair look'.

After our beauty treatments! While I went the low maintenance route of 45minutes, Lexi decided to be all demanded Diva that she is and take 3 hours! WHAT?!?! That's what you get when you dogs hair is outta control!!

AND DON'T WE LOOK PURRRRTY??

Then it was drop off the dog and head to my sister's so I could help her test a product to write a review! After which my niece woke up from nap and I got to have some cuddles and popsicles!

Now this weekend was spent with my Momma as Dad was out of town. We were over at my sister's helping to pack and move some things for them.

I went for a shift up at the Country Club, where it was very slow and pretty boring to say the least. But honestly you can't beat getting paid to chitchat and sorting candy for an upcoming event. We sorted Life saver mints which a coworker found us because he could smell them from halfway down the hall..they were strong! Also I tested the idea that if you bite down on a life saver in the dark that they will spark, and they really do! Haha it was kind of funny to try it out!

I'm pretty sure my dog is either very depressed or deathly sick...I'm praying for the depressed option here. She's very much used to hanging out with her "boys" and since my Brother has gone away to school he literally comes home maybe once a month and rather reluctantly. So he's been away for about a month and she is MOST DEFINITELY missing him! My Mom and I even called him yesterday and put him on speaker to try to cheer her up... My Dad was away with Mom and then packed for a business trip, so he's kind of been away for 2 1/2 weeks at this point. So again she is desperately missing her boys. They both come home this week, I'm hoping to see a change in her pretty quickly!

Fail

Last week REALLY got away from me, but I desperately tried to blog not once, twice, but THREE yes 3 times...

It was an utter fail to say the least. The first time, my computer froze two sentences in....I can admit I don't shut my computer down often enough and I keep too many windows open at once. Second try and I had absolutely no success in uploading pictures to make a little montage :/ so yea I gave up. Third try I wrote up this nice long blog and began to assemble pictures that I was finally able to watermark and was getting the last finishing touches on, when the computer frozen AGAIN -_-.

Grrrrrrrr, now I hope I don't need to be concerned with my laptop because I did just buy it like 2yrs ago and it was kind of a lot.. teacher no like those kind of expenses.

Here's to a better blogging week ahead of me!

No Power??

That time I woke up at 5am and realized "The powers out.." yep that happened to me this morning. On a Friday no less, while I'm home by myself and taking care of the family dog...

Luckily, and kind of randomly I woke up around 5am in dire need of using the bathroom. That's when I realized, my fan that I sleep with every night is not on and nor is my clock near my bed.. then my brain clicks on and I finally realized THE POWER IS OUT... set into a bit of panic mood. I immediately check my phone and realize it's thankfully still early and didn't oversleep. Then I get up and check on the pup, who is on the other side of the locked door because I refuse to sleep with the door open (that comes from when my brother used to HAVE to sleep with the door open).

I literally couldn't even pee by myself because my dog was so worked up, she barged into the bathroom before I could even shut the door behind me... insert awkwardness even if it is my dog. Then to be nice, I invite said dog back into my room and into bed so I could hopefully fall back asleep and not feel guilty about not getting up yet. Lexi could not have been more annoying in bed. She pants historically because who knows how long the powers been out and she's so worked up.. I don't know what happened to her, but she gets incredibly anxious during storms, power outages, etc. does this happen to other Golden's or dogs??

Any who,  we both didn't sleep very well...she didn't settle in and anytime I moved she'd get more worked up. I also couldn't help but think of everything that happens when the power goes out. Like now I can't take my shower -_- didn't plan well for that, don't flush the toliets now, oh and how do I get my car out of the garage now??. And since my parentals were out of town I had to text the sister to confirm what made the power go out and how to proceed in the morning. Let's be honest, I totally forgot how you can pull on the little red thing* to manually open and close your garage door, cuz when was the last time you thought about that??

And just to recap, loss of power isn't a legit enough excuse to skip work?!?! When did that happen? I find it plenty excusable, especially when one has not bathed properly...

Oh and to sum up my how morning, I was really unable to enjoy the first significant snowfall because of the awful power outage :((. And even more side note: to the neighbor with the generator going since at least 6:30 am going on 2hrs. relax it was 3inches of snow and a car crash that led us to no power. i think you’ll survive a morning without a shower and or modern amenities just like the rest of us… I admit I could totally use a shower this morning,  but its just not in the cards today, and I’ll live….simmer down please

Weekend Update

So after my wonderful dentist trip (it really was fine, just unwanted money spent really) I headed off to work at the Country Club where it was the LAST wedding of the season :(. Weddings are soo fun, from setting up to watching the guests arrive, bridal party, wedding and/or reception actually taking place it is truly a blast to work. I also work with amazing people and an amazing boss that is great about having fun while working. It is the best second consistent job I could ask for.

Saturdays last reception was plain awesome because I had a student who was the flower girl and as I was passing the oh so fancy hors d'oeuvre, I offered something to this girl and she says "You look exactly like my Miss Abby at my school" so I cleverly replied with "Well that's because I am Miss Abby from school" haha. AND she went NUTS!! Yelling to anyone who would listen to her about her teacher being there, she even ran outside onto the patio area and yelled to the group out there... to which my coworkers told me about after asking if I had heard her announcement to the world pretty much. Not gonna lie, it was really nice that someone was so excited to see me, at least someone is right?? Throughout the night you betcha this little girl did not hesitate to come to me for anything haha

Sunday I helped my Sister move some boxes into the new home but not before having some last minute fun with my niece's toys at the old house; exhibit A:

Who doesn't love a monkey backpack with attached tail/leash??!! I actually joked with my sister about buying one of these back in 2008 when we were on a family trip in Florida and saw a few of these on young children. We thought they were disgustingly a good idea. I mean awful that a parent would do that to their child right?? WRONG!! Even just playing in the kitchen/living room at my sister's, my niece pretty much had control of the leash (obviously where the parent usually would) and that monkey tail was strong where I felt her little hands tugging on me! Wicked cute though and I loved hearing her little laugh as I walked her around. Again I bought this as kind of a jag gift when my sister was pregnant with my niece, but I was super happy to play with it on Sunday!!

Hope your weekend was great!! Mine was fun, but went by wayyyy too fast for me and I'm a little under the weather heading into the work week :(.

Dentist on a Saturday??

That's right, I was the genius/idiot to schedule my filing on a Saturday morning!!

Ok, ok I admit, it actually was a good idea because now it's over and done with. And I'm willing to bet my dentist is better than yours!! I was outta there within half an hour and hardly felt a thing. Partly because I full on requested to be numbed up...I mean who wouldn't??

Can hardly feel a poke!

You're plain up CRAY CRAY if you don't. First reason, you won't feel it and who wants to feel the pain of a drill and all the other things that go along with getting a filling. Secondly it is the coolest feeling ever, hahaha. It's hardly been a half hour following said procedure and I still can't feel the teeth surrounding, but I'll keep on Smiling :)

Not a bad smile to have...

I have no doubt it will completely wear off by the time I have to head to work at the Country Club at 11:30.... no doubt.

Happy Election Day

Tuesday was a just "good" kind of day

Nothing crazy good, but also nothing crazy bad either.

Although it was Election day, so I hope everyone got out (or still plans to go out) and cast your vote! Remember you are NOT allowed to B*%@! about any results unless you take part in making the decisions!

What I truly love about Election day is how I am still confused if I'm entering the building to cast my vote or heading in for 6th period of the school day -_-. Oh well, I've been told before I have those baby cheeks that'll forever make me look younger, I know I know I'll appreciate this down the road. BUT right now, I swear I'm old enough to vote AND drink!!!

I myself have been voting since I turned 18, in every possible election big or small. I remember my first election I was able to vote in was when I was a senior in High school. Everyone was given the day off because our local high school would become too congested with all the extra traffic that day. It wasn't a big election year, but never the less I was determine to cast my vote for something! And I even kept my voting sticker on my jacket that week because I was one of very few in my graduating class that was an early 18year old :) very proud stuff.

Do you remember your first time voting??

Most Needed

Ahhhh, today was a most needed Monday. Blissfully slept in until 7am because I am lucky enough to work the 9-5:30 shift on Mondays and Fridays. Was able to slowly get myself going and off to work, where I found out that we would only have 9 children that day.. insert angels singing a beautiful melody because 9 is better than 10 and wayyyyy better than 12 which is what we usually have Tuesday-Thursday :P.

It was a beautiful Monday, children behaved as well as expected and then some. Had a good heart to heart with a coworker and a yummy lunch at Panera :).

This you pick 2 combo of Turkey Cranberry Flatbread sandwhich and Autumn squash soup is to die for! Although other's have said it's on the sweet side, I'm all for it! Worth the $$ and wait to get.

And finally to end my nice day with the kiddos, a coworker and I decided to go and get our nails done and have a much needed debrief hour to ourselves to gab a little more and most of all be pampered :).
It's kind of a darker Maroon and I love <3

Hope your Monday following Daylight Savings wasn't so horrible and possibly even delightful?.... too soon? Ok, hopefully it was manageable at the very least. Bring on the rest of the week!

Too Late

So on top of being a full time Early Childhood Educator and part time server at a Country Club, I also occasionally babysit to make a little spending cash.

So last night I was super excited to babysit for a little girl I had in my class at my old preschool and her new little brother. That's right, a 3 1/2 year old and  a 3 month old... CHALLENGE ACCEPTED! Now I anticipated that the parents would leave a little later than expected because I am only the second person to watch said new little baby and I was far warned that he can be a little cranky and comes with a "Witching" hour...AWESOME!

I arrived promptly at 5pm and was given the basics again (it had been a while since I had babysat for them). Met the new little guy, solo incredibly cute, no surprise there considering Mom and Dad are Red Carpet ready at any time of day. Then the "Witching" began and the fussing and there is nothing worse than a Mother watching you trying to comfort her baby. Needless to say they didn't leave for another hour...

Then bedtime began, he put up a little fight at first, but that's when *my natural instincts* kick in. The shushing and butt/back tapping works 90% of the time, I KID YOU NOT! As a woman in my 3year in the field and 12year of babysitting, I give you this free advice on the house, your welcome :).

Baby was OUT! (insert angels singing) and it was time to play with the 3year old; small board games, a HUGE whiteboard on the wall (WHAT?!!! ~SCORE!), and then 30mins into our time little man wakes up -_- ok sorry gotta go check and what do you know, we're hungry... force a little 2 1/2 ounces (he is not a great eater), change our diaper, and pat the butt back to sleep. Now he's got 3, count them three spots to sleep in, so I changed it up and moved him to another spot cuz the last one didn't work out. Down for the count for the second time now.

Thank goodness it was getting late and time for the 3yr old to get ready for bed and she was getting teary eyed so I knew she was going down quickly. Read book, cuddle, and she was out. Time to celebrate right?                WRONG!

Baby's up again and this time it's a good 20mins of walking around, back and butt patting, and all the shushing possible. Finally both kids down and it's after 9, fabulous...another 2 or 3 hours and I'll be heading home and sleeping myself...or so I thought. Now this family had a few other couples over before heading out and one of the couples came home early and informed me it was just them and that everyone else was "rallying" it up... this was at Midnight...ok so I'll be here a while later than expected.

Now I love my sleep and falling asleep in front of the t.v. is even better. In and out of sleep for over 3hrs though, not ideal. I either woke because I heard a noise, child scurrying about (oh did I mention the girl woke at about 12:30 and I had to lay with her again?), a need to check on the sleeping children- I do this quite often when babysitting because I don't trust monitors haha. Rolling around to just after 1am and they finally roll in...Drunk as all hell and informing me the McDonald's is now open 24hrs a day and that the apple pie was all his, thanks for the info! haha

Now I knew this family from the child care center I worked at previously, so I knew there would be some questions after a bit of alcohol influence, no big deal. Then there was the search for cash around the house to pay me. And the neighbor who stopped in and was asked to spend the night, "Let's watch Lone Survivor! You know Marky Mark. Call your wife, you're sleeping over!" ~late 30s father here. HAHA that made staying up till almost 2 worth my while.

Finally got home where I was even more excited about the now time change because my Niece was also sleeping over my parents house. Set the alarm to get up to play with her and hit the hay :)

*Not to pat myself on the back too much, but sometimes I even impress myself with the skills I pull out of a hat in order to get kids to eat or sleep*

Review

So, I can't even apologize for not blogging because its hard and I have a freaking life....

No, not a very busy life, but a life at that. This life includes working not one, but two jobs and occasionally babysitting on the side. and excuse me if I'd rather veg out on the couch whether napping or actually watching a show instead of tediously writing to my future self. Well I mean, thats really why we all blog right? Share our moments, but to save said moments so we can relive them later?

That's why Time hop has recently become a new sensation because you are able to review your life on any giving day via Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram! For us old folks who have been on social media for more than our preteen years, there are hilarious stories to look back on. And admittedly, shame yourself on. I mean, did I HAVE to write that on Facebook?? such a drama queen....although I never have regrets on Twitter since I hardly let anyone follow me because that is my outlet, much like this blog started out to be. It's secretly enough, yet publicly out there for someone to someday read. You could say I love twitter....

Well this was an ADD blog if I ever did write one...
